‘It took so long

But it’s gone so quick!’ quotes Oz

After 4000nm and 48 days we will finally make it to our final destination on the 18th. Being in the Trade winds has improved our daily average, helping us cover over 180nm a day.

We celebrated with a bottle of Prosecco when we touched 999nm to Barbados. Mark predicted 8:02am and was off by just a few minutes. We polished off that bottle for breakfast!

Prosecco time

And then felt quite lightheaded as breakfast got delayed. The 999 milestone was marked by the genneker clew almost shearing off and then getting its lines all entangled as we tried to bring it down. We had a bit of a battle getting the billowing sail under control and back inside its snuffer. There was a moment of panic when Andrew almost got bumped off the boat. Robin spent the better part of 2 days sewing the clew back into place. A challenging task now that we’re low on cigarettes and completely out of wine!

Winging it

The temperature has been rising since we left Madeira. All of us are now in shorts and t shirts. The inside of the boat is quite warm  so we keep all our hatches open. Which almost got us into trouble this morning when a sudden squall poured down on us. They’re quite common in this area and we will just have to keep an eye open for them.

Squall alert!

Every few days we turn on the water maker for filling our tanks with drinking water and for a shower. As we did yesterday. Next shower before we make landfall. Unless we do a rain dance in the next squall!
