As we inch into September, Antara is looking forward to the Ides of October. That’s when we hope to launch into our second season.
The ‘class’ survey with RINA, that establishes Antara’s ongoing seaworthiness, was completed last week. Our blistering barnacles await the new moon. With the high tide that brings, it will be easier for us to haul Antara out of the water to clean her hull.
We went ahead with other maintenance efforts though, like the annual check-up for our life rafts. This meant detaching the rafts from their year-long repose on Antara. Not an easy task given how attached they were to her! We needed a crane to coax them into parting company.
The good folks at the House of Safety will open up the canisters that hold the liferafts. They will replace the emergency rations, check the safety flares and ensure that the rafts inflate and are in good working condition.
In the meantime, we have checked that all Antara’s equipment is up to date, her certificates in place and everything ship-shape!
The Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) informed us today that their survey is scheduled for Monday morning. Everything in order but still nervous about Antara’s ‘final exam’!
The good thing is, with that done, we will be one step closer to the blues, ocean blues!
