Thanks for your response to our poll on Antara’s new colour. We had an 70:30 preference for the original blue, and will keep that in mind when finalising her new coat.
Last week, we drove down to Bombay to pick up our sails. It was a gorgeous drive through a beautiful stretch of the Anuskura ghat. With the coastal road coming up we were able to drive further north and then cross over the Sahyadris.
After a couple of days of R&R in Bombay we took the RoRo over to Mandwa and Sailing Stuff, the sail repair workshop run by Capt Homi Motivala. Homi wears many a sailing cap: he has won awards at the Asian Games, was national sailing coach and is a recipient of the Shaurya Chakra.
In fact, Homi is probably the only Indian to have won the Dronacharya, the Khel Ratna and the Arjuna Awards!
This season on, Antara will have a Main sail, a Genoa and a Stay sail. The last one will be a new addition on Antara and will come in handy in bad weather. And, unlike the furling Genoa, the Stay will need to be hanked on. The evolution, or process, of setting it up is something we will need to work through once we have rigged up Antara.
That’s the good news. However….the mast missed the boat, literally. It’s still sitting in Cape Town and our countdown was dialled back 10 days! The rains too show no sign of letting up in Goa, so all work on the boat has hit the pause button.
Monday should bring sunshine and good tidings.
Looking forward to seeing you folks aboard this season. Reach out on sailonantara@gmail.com to schedule your sail. Do share this with friends and family and help us grow the tribe of sailors.
