With one cold front following another so relentlessly, we have had to hole up in Brest. In fact I’m writing this sitting in the cosy lounge on board while the gale gusts on. We expect to be here till Wednesday before we attempt a dash across the Bay of Biscay.
Some generator work and some cleaning up then some restocking to do. We also managed a trip to a neighbouring marina and visited several ‘swindleries’ for boat essentials. That was accompanied by a delicious meal at the ‘Tour de la Monde’. They came up aces!
Even a short sail across the Channel was enough for us to appreciate the hot showers and stable heads (loos) at the marina. And water, electricity and fuel access so handy! So wish we could have similar facilities in India.
Last night was movie night on board with the crew enjoying The Titfield Thunderbolt after a meal of pepper chicken a la Dilip.
A visit to the local art museum and a team dinner ashore is planned today.
We sail early Thursday morning, in the general direction of Spain. If the weather holds we may even cross Finisterre.
PS: as promised, a better image of Dilip with his memento for being in the Cape Horn Hall of Fame. He’s the first Indian there, and we can’t wait for the rest to join him!
Dilip is aboard Suhaili, Sir Robin’s boat built in Bombay; the one he sailed solo and non stop around the world in 1968. The first person to ever accomplish the feat!
