MA(t)CH Speed

…not

It would have been great to be ashore for the World Cup finals, but the wind gods and the English team didn’t play ball. We were so looking forward to sitting around a bar cheering for the English team, even as we relished our first chilled beer in 20 days! Now we’re looking at a delay of a day or two with an ETA of late 19th or early 20th to arrive in Port St Charles, Barbados.

Meanwhile a sea turtle dropped by. It paddled away calmly, craning it’s neck as we went past. Imagine the stories she must have for her grandchildren… this immense galleon stalked up to me as if to scare me with its size. Hrrrmmmph! Oh you should have been there to see the battle. I locked my eyes firmly on its strange red and green orbs; and stared it into submission. It timbers shivered as it stood by meekly and I made my way towards another juicy piece of seaweed.

Every 15 degrees of longitude we change our clock by an hour. Every longitude is 4 minutes away from the next. So now we’re at 7:30am. In India it must be 3pm.

The Skipper came up along with the sun to catch up on the warmth. It’s 4 degrees in the UK right now! And to get a bit more bronzed, like us. The two of us are feeling right at home, not just with the temperature but in the knowledge that we’re sailing the same latitudes as a sail between Bombay and Mangalore.

Windless conditions mean we have more time to continue reading and cooking. Yesterday being Sunday, Gemma and Mark served up a boat version of pot roast. Baked potatoes with rosemary, tossed veggies and beef gravy. Simply delicious!

Macchi curry

Meanwhile our boat log sent out to a few relatives and friends has begun to include easy to cook on a boat Indian recipes. So far we have shared recipes for mint chutney, pepper chicken and macchi curry.

As I watch, the Skipper is busy splashing sea water on deck. Much in the manner of us Indians splashing water on the dry, cracked mud, in summer, to cool the space around us. He however is intent on keeping the teak wood used on deck from warping. Apparently sea water is great for that. Must get some on Antara.
