This time we have an audio visual treat for you. Not only can you browse our music selection but you can tune in to the radio and listen in the good old-fashioned way!
Elias Patel, a dear friend and RJ on FM Rainbow, Goa helped us compile this list and very generously offered to play a selection on his program this Tuesday, August 18th between 9 and 11pm. If you would like to tune in click here, or download the All India Radio Live App from the Playstore or the Appstore and scroll to FM Rainbow, Goa.
Here are our foot tapping favourites, in no particular order:
‘Son of a son of a sailor’ by Jimmy Buffet from the album with the same name. Dilip loves this number sung by a sailor.
‘Calypso’ by John Denver from the album Windsong
‘Single handed sailor’ by Dire Straits from the album Communique. I’ve always loved Mark Knofler’s voice and his guitar; so imagine my delight at this gem! And a couple of others strewn around.
‘Sail on Sailor’ by Beach Boys from the album Holland
‘Lost Sailor’ by Grateful Dead from the album Go to Heaven
‘Sailing’ by Rod Stewart from the album Atlantic Crossing
‘Sail Away’ by Chris Rea from the album King Of The Beach
‘Cool Change’ by the Little River Band from the album First Under the Wire
‘Come Sail Away’ by Styx from the album The Grand Illusion
‘Sailing’ by Christopher Cross
‘Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes’ by Jimmy Buffett from the album with the same name
‘One Particular Harbour’ by Jimmy Buffett from the album with the same name
‘Brown Skin Girl’ by Harry Belafonte from the album Calypso. Not really about sailing, but calypso music has that certain lilt that’s perfect when sailing full tilt!
‘Don’t Stop me Now ‘by Queen from the album Bohemian Rhapsody. This was the anthem song for Sir Robin’s team during the Velux 5 Ocean Race, 2006. Sir Robin sailed this race solo at the age of 67; and, Dilip worked as apprentice in preparation for his own circumnavigation.
Chris Queen made a CD of the song for Sir Robin and he wrote in on reading this newsletter to share this:
Roger Taylor attended Sir Robin’s homecoming at Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth!
‘Sailing to Philadelphia’ by Mark Knofler from the album Private Investigations
‘Sloop John B’ by The Beach Boys from the album Pet Sounds
‘Southern Cross’ by Crosby, Stills and Nash from the album Daylight Again
‘Trawlerman’s song’ by Mark Knofler from the album Shangri La
Sea Shanties are naughty, raucous, rambunctious and just right for the salty types:
‘The Flying Dutchman’ by The Jolly Rogers
‘Molly Malone’ by The Dubliners brings back pleasant memories of the Golden Globe Race 2018
And finally, just like with movies, we’re partial to animation, so here’s a couple of our favourites:
‘Under the Sea’ from The Little Mermaid soundtrack
‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana soundtrack
