We got to Portsmouth on the 2nd, expecting to sail by the 7th, only to have the weather spoil our plans.
But, we’ve been busy! Dilip was inducted into the Cape Horners Hall of Fame and was unable to attend the ceremony at Le Sable just before the GGR start. He got to collect his award at the hands of his mentor, at his home! The photographer (Moi) was so excited, the photo has the two of them but not the trophy! A better picture follows in my next update, I promise!
An unexpected sunny afternoon allowed us to check out the neighbourhood. Portsmouth is a naval base and rich in history, being home to HMS Victory: Nelson’s Flagship in the Battle of Trafalgar; HMS Warrior: the pride of Queen Victoria’s fleet; Henry VIII’s favourite ship the Mary Rose which is conserved in a dockyard museum and the HMS Queen Elizabeth, England’s aircraft carrier.
And of course we caught up with some old friends.
To round off our first weekend here, a finger licking, fabulous Sunday Lamb Roast!
The weather gods are having a great time out there - lot of fireworks, gusty winds and pouring rain. Which means we are grounded till their mood improves!
